Case Study: Polish Gift of Life

Case Study: Polish Gift of Life

Project:

Since Polish Gift of Life is a company whose target audience are Polish Americans, we designed their web site in two languages. It was designed so that both U.S. visitors and visitors from Poland or Americans who speak Polish could easily navigate the site and get the necessary information. The site offered general information on the children they sponsor and on their treatment. We programmed a calendar of events, a directions/map section and an active list of sponsoring companies and individuals with links to their respective web sites.

Features:

  • Web Site and Layout Design
  • Graphic Design
  • Site Architecture
  • Programming
  • Interactive Child Listing
  • Sponsor Listings
  • Event Announcements with Directions
  • Technology Used:

  • ASP
  • CSS
  • JavaScript
  • HTML/DHTML
  • VBScript
  • Photoshop
  • Photo Scanning
  • Some Challenges and Solutions:

    Challenge 1:
To make the site available in two languages.

    Solution 1:
We had to get translated versions of all pages in a Polish language and integrate them into the site so that it would be easy to switch from one language to another regardless of where the user was on the site. On the left-side navigation one of the lower buttons provides a switch between the two language versions.

    Challenge 2:
To provide a n interactive photo album of all helped children.

    Solution 2:
The child photo album is a JavaScript driven interactive feature where a childs picture shows on the left side as the user scrolls with the mouse over children's names on the right side. Children with available photos are marked with a heart.

    Challenge 3:
Design the site based on provided printed material by the company.

    Solution 3:
We had to redesign their logo and recreate all the provided graphics including the logo in a digital format.
